The latest device to get updated to Windows Mobile 6.1 on Verizon Wireless is now the Motorola Q9c. It took forever, but it happened. Verizon and Motorola have finally announced the Windows Mobile 6.1 update for the Motorola Q9c. Motorola Q9c was launched this spring with Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard, so naturally it’s being upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, the edition of this operating system for devices without touchscreens.
The update features all of the enhacements expected in Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, such as copy/paste functionality, threaded SMS messaging, and other improvements expected of the update. The update is currently available from the Motorola Direct website and as usual you will need a Windows XP machine with ActiveSync or a Microsoft Vista 32 machine with Mobile Device Center. A USB sync cable and 50% battery charge are also required, but this is a small price to pay for native threaded text messaging and improved web browsing. Find the WM6.1 ROM here. Just remember to back up all your data before jumping on the good ship WinMo6.1.
