The Pantach Duo, offered by AT&T for almost year, has just received an update to Windows Mobile 6.1. The upgrade to Microsoft’s latest and greatest smartphone platform is available for free here. Pantech’s update website for the Duo says that the new firmware will provide “other enhancements” in addition to Windows Mobile 6.1, but fails to specify what any of the enhancements are.
What’s New?
The new version of Windows Mobile adds a sliding panel interface for the Today Screen, improvements in handling wireless connections, and an update to Internet Explorer Mobile. The software upgrade was released on September 29th last month and will update your Pantech Duo to Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. This smartphone launched at $200, but it’s now available from AT&T for $80. This price reflects its fairly “bare-bones” feature set.

It runs the Standard edition of Windows Mobile, which is for devices without touchscreens. Speaking of the display, the Duo’s is 2.2 inches across and has a QVGA resolution.It comes with a suite of applications for handling email, surfing the Web, and playing audio and video. It also has a mobile version of Microsoft Office.Other features include a 1.3 MPx camera and a microSD card slot. Physically the Pantech Duo is 4.2 inches by 2 inches by 0.8 inches, and it weighs 3.9 ounces.
