Yahoo announced a new mobile service on Tuesday. The company said that an updated version of Yahoo Mobile is available in limited beta. It will eventually be launched as an iPhone application and an application for Nokia, RIM, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola devices, as well as phones with Windows Mobile.
Yahoo! Mobile project combines the app with access to your Yahoo! account, Yahoo! News, widget support, mapping, and Opera Mini. Yahoo Mobile offers a front page with colorful, boxy icons resembling the iPhone’s for launching popular applications such as a Web browser, mail, news, weather and social network sites like Facebook. Yahoo! Mobile will include the Yahoo! oneSearch search engine, which will allow “users to launch searches by simply speaking” on voice-enabled devices (this should work on virtually all supported phones
The non-Apple smartphone version of Yahoo Mobile will have the same functions but add voice-controlled search capabilities, mapping software and the Opera Mini 4.2 web browser. Widgets will also be part of the application, allowing users to take advantage of Yahoo and other services made for mobile phones.
The application will be outed in two versions: a mobile Web one and a smartphone one
